Support Safe Zones for all students

Support Safe Zones for All Students

As a justice-centered union, we will stand together to ensure all students are able to learn and grow in an environment free of fear and uncertainty. All across New Jersey, educators like you are witnessing the trauma that the actions of the current federal administration are causing to students, families, and communities.

In response to the threat of harsh immigration enforcement and discrimination in our schools, school districts across our state are creating "safe zones" to protect our students. As an NJEA member, you can be part of this movement to protect the rights of students and community members alike.

By opting in, we will connect you to an advocacy community that will provide you and your union siblings with resources to advocate for Board of Education resolutions and policies to help districts establish Safe Zones, ensuring every child, regardless of background or immigration status, can access a free public K-12 education.

This initiative, grounded in the Supreme Court case Plyler v. Doe, seeks to create connections between educators, community leaders, and civil servants to affirming public education as a civil right and the cornerstone of our democracy.
