NJEA President Sean M. Spiller and NJEA Vice President Steve Beatty each testified this week regarding NJEA’s budget priorities for the coming year. You can see NJEA’s formal written testimony here.
NJEA has previously released a statement praising Gov. Murphy’s proposed budget, particularly the full pension payment and the first-ever full funding of SFRA, New jersey’s’ school funding formula. That was reiterated in the testimony. But both Spiller and Beatty took the opportunity to call for the Legislature to include additional funding for other critical needs, including additional aid for county colleges and supplemental support for districts that lost funding under S-2 or for other reasons. S2 is the law designed to get all districts back onto the SFRA formula. This is the final year of a seven-year phase in of that law.
If your district was one that lost funding this year, or if you want to support your colleagues in those districts, please reach out to legislators today.
