NJEA’s PAC Operating Committee and NEA’s Fund for Children and Public Education has endorsed Sen. Nellie Pou in New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District. She is running to fill the seat left empty by the passing of Congressman Bill Pascrell in August.
Pou currently represents New Jersey’s 35th Legislative District in the Senate, a position she has held for more than 12 years. Prior to her election to the Senate, she served in the General Assembly where she was a member of the Assembly Education Committee.
NJEA’s officers, President Sean M. Spiller, Vice President Steve Beatty and Secretary-Treasurer Petal Robertson issued this statement:
“NJEA members are proud to endorse and support the candidacy of Nellie Pou in CD-9. We know that she will honor the legacy of Bill Pascrell by building on the work he did to strengthen our public schools and support working families. Sen. Pou has proven herself a true friend to educators during her time in the New Jersey Legislature, and we are confident she will continue to uphold our values in the U.S. House of Representatives. Sen. Pou is a trailblazer herself, as she is running to become the first Hispanic woman to represent New Jersey in Congress. We look forward to supporting her historic candidacy and to partnering with her on our shared policy priorities once she wins.”
