Bergen County educator Erica Romitelli, from the Elmwood Park School District, was awarded a $9, 248 grant to carry out a project that encourages literacy with family experiences. Through literacy programs and training workshops for families, this project intends to narrow the literacy gap between native English and Spanish speaking elementary students. The programs will help families establish reading routines at home, increase family involvement, develop English language literacy, and improve reading and vocabulary acquisition. The increased socialization will help link families with each other and school staff. This grant was designated as the Visions Grant for Social Justice.
