Books can take you anywhere

Whether your next adventure is exploring the pyramids of Egypt or reading about the woman who sent man to the moon, reading can take you anywhere. For the 23rd year running, the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) is working to promote reading and literacy through Read Across-NJ in support of the National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America program. NJEA members are invited to join the nationwide celebration of reading. Where is your next adventure?

Read Across America aims to build a nation of diverse readers and offers limitless opportunities for involvement in children’s reading throughout the year. The year-round program can fit reading fun into any educator’s calendar daily, weekly or monthly and includes big celebrations of reading on March 2 and throughout National Reading Month in March.

Through its Read Across-NJ program, NJEA urges educators and students throughout the state to explore the world and other cultures through the magic of books.  After all, when you read, there’s no place you can’t go! The titles and resources featured by NEA’s Read Across America and NJEA’s Read Across-NJ programs also strive to include books that students can see themselves reflected in.

Nationwide celebration of reading

Nationwide, educators and communities are urged to take part and show children how to discover and explore new adventures through books.  Whether they are together in person or virtually, schools around the country will celebrate the day in creative and exciting ways.  NJEA encourages community leaders to join local schools in their celebrations.

NJEA has made a major investment in Read Across-New Jersey and each year that commitment grows.  In fact, this year NJEA gave over 135 RANJ grants to local associations as an opportunity to engage their communities around literacy, through PRIDE grants.

So, what are you waiting for?  Choose your next adventure. Grab a book and spread the joy of reading.
