NJEA officers decry Apalachee High School shooting

NJEA’s officers, President Sean M. Spiller, Vice President Steve Beatty and Secretary-Treasurer Petal Robertson, released this statement regarding today’s horrific shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

“We have learned with sadness and dismay of today’s horrific school shooting in Georgia. Our hearts are with the families, friends and loved ones of all of those who have been injured and killed.

“Beyond our thoughts and prayers, we offer our unbending resolve to fight for better laws and common sense reforms that will keep our students and educators safer and protect other families from such unthinkable horrors.

“Tragically, it is too late to save these most recent victims. But it absolutely is not too soon to take action to prevent future harm. Those who stalled, made excuses and refused to act following previous tragedies like this share the blame for today’s preventable deaths. We must stop sacrificing our children at the altar of gun rights.”
