Many members with split benefits – where one spouse/partner is Medicare-eligible and the other is non-Medicare eligible – have been having trouble during the Open Enrollment.
NJEA Research staff checked and found the reason. There is a special Open Enrollment for the early retirees under 65 that runs from May 1 – May 31, 2024. They found out that the split special Open Enrollment is June 1 – June 30, 2024. Retirees are allowed to change plans once every 12 months. If a retiree changes carrier during special Open Enrollment, they will stay with the new carrier for 12 months.
