Benefits of NJEA Preservice Membership:

  • Organize and discuss issues around public education with other pre-service educators. NJEA Preservice members worked to postpone the harmful effects of edTPA.
  • Outreach opportunities make a difference in your community through activities such as school supply drives.
  • The knowledge to help reduce your student loan debt payments and have loans forgiven.
  • Learn more about how to advocate for your students by attending statewide conferences, including the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) Preservice Leadership Conference and the NJEA Convention in Atlantic City.
  • Training and advice from student-teachers and early career educators – to help you survive that first year of teaching.
  • Scholarships – Members are eligible to compete for scholarship money through the NEA Retired Jack Kinnaman Scholarship.
  • $3,000,000 in free education liability insurance from NEA’s Student Program when you join NJEA Preservice. (Some limitations and conditions apply).
  • Free, confidential member helpline – The AID-NJEA helpline provides free, comprehensive, and confidential support, phone counseling, as well as resource referrals on issues and problems related to your work and personal or family life.
  • You’ll qualify for the same shopping and service discounts enjoyed by full time NJEA members.
  • Free access to NJEA’s library of Collective Bargaining Agreements so you can review a school district’s “employment contract” before you go on a job interview (PDF versions of these contracts are available by email to members of NJEA Preservice just by making a phone call).
  • Free subscription to a professional journal for student teachers.

NEA Membership

Joining NJEA also makes you a member of the National Education Association (NEA).
NJEA has waived the $17 state dues for the 2023-24 membership year. For the $15 NEA dues, members will pay this amount at the time of enrollment/renewal with reimbursement provided by NJEA based on the schedule below:

    • Members enrolling/renewing between 8/1/23 and 12/31/23 will be reimbursed in January 2024
    • Members enrolling/renewing between 1/1/24 and 5/31/24 will be reimbursed in June 2024

NEA Aspiring Educator

As a Preservice member, you enjoy the benefits of NEA Aspiring Educator Membership, and you have access to NEA’s vast resources. You’ll receive the annual Tomorrow’s Teachers magazine and the monthly NEA Today magazine to help you follow education trends.

On the NEA web site, you can access resources and links to other NEA student chapters.

Insurance & Benefits

The NEA Aspiring Educator Program provides insurance protection every time you step into a classroom. The NEA Educators Employment Liability Program offers you million-dollar insurance coverage.
