Somerset County educator Tyana Truong, from Watchung Hills Regional School District, was awarded a $5,000 grant to help Italian language students learn about Italy’s history of immigration and emigration, its cultural impact on the world, and the unexplored diversity of the country today. To facilitate these efforts, three in-school field trips will be held, including “Black Italy” in which an Italian-Ghanaian documentary filmmaker will come to the school to teach students about the Italian “Black Lives Matter” movement. This grant was designated as the Jack Bertolino Grant for Social Studies and Civics.
