Lewes Advanced Placement Summer Institute

Lewes, Delaware, is the setting for The Lewes Advanced Placement Summer Institute, an intensive four-day program designed to give teachers experience in developing and teaching Advanced Placement (AP) courses. This year’s program offers two sessions in July with 15 subject areas for new and experienced AP teachers.

Participants will share strategies with an eye toward maximizing student potential. Teachers also leave Lewes with information learned from master instructors. The acquisition of strategic insights, creative strategies, boundless inspiration, and imagination for best practice lesson plans are the ingredients that challenge students. Lewes AP instructors are certified and endorsed by the Middle Atlantic Regional Office of The College Board. They are all experienced classroom teachers.

The following subjects will be offered July 22-25: biology (inexperienced), chemistry (inexperienced), English language, English literature, French language, Physics 1, Spanish language and culture, statistics, U.S. history, and world history.

From July 29 to Aug. 1, these subjects will be presented: biology (experienced), Calculus AB, chemistry (experienced), environmental science, human geography, Physics 1, Physics 2, psychology, studio art, U.S. government and politics, and U.S. history.

The institute is held at Cape Henlopen High School. Participants are responsible for housing. The institute website lists several suggested hotels within a short drive of the high school. Because Lewes and Rehoboth Beach are extremely popular resort areas, early registration is encouraged.
