Invest in a New Jersey

Plan now for 2009 NJEA Convention

As always, the convention will offer hundreds of great workshops, excellent networking opportunities, and a huge exhibit floor featuring textbook vendors, field trip destinations, fundraising opportunities, and much more.

Expanded tech showcase

Last year, the NJEA Convention debuted the Technology Integration Showcase. It proved so popular that this year it will be five times its original size. Hall B will be renamed “High Tech Hall” featuring two technology classrooms and dozens more drop-in experiences.

AHA is this year’s convention charity

Every year, NJEA selects a charity that benefits New Jersey residents. This year’s, convention attendees will be encouraged to support the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency with a mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke by providing credible heart disease and stroke information for effective prevention and treatment.

More information about the American Heart Association can be found at www.americanheart.org. Refer to your 2009 NJEA Convention Program, which will be mailed to you this fall, for ways that you can help this worthy cause.

A conference within a conference

If you belong to your If you’re a member of your School or Local Professional Development Committee (SPDC/LPDC) you know that there’s a lot to know. The NJEA Convention in Atlantic City is the perfect opportunity to get that “above and beyond” training you need to meet the needs of your colleagues back home.

With that in mind, SPDC and LPDC members will want to pay particular attention to special offering designed just for you. Make a note to look for these programs in the NJEA Convention Program you’ll receive this fall.

Affordable arrangements

NJEA has negotiated lower rates at participating hotels—as low as $75/night. See your May NJEA Review for hotel registration information.

In addition to savings on your overnight lodging, NJEA members with Convention badges are eligible for discounts at many Atlantic City stores and restaurants over the course of the NJEA Convention.

Member authors promoted at Convention

Your May NJEA Reporter will include a registration form for NJEA members who have published works that enhance and add value to the teaching profession or that can serve as useful educational resources for teachers, educational support professionals, and parents.

Such authors can sell their work on the Convention floor for a nominal fee.

Newsletter editors: Show us your stuff!

Local association newsletter editors and website managers will also want to refer to the May Reporter for instructions on how to take part in the convention’s annual Newsletter Display. Be sure your local association is represented—you even have a chance to win a digital camera, just by sending your newsletter to NJEA for display at the Convention Center.

Runners, walkers find your mark

As the weather begins to warm, now is the time to get in shape for the annual NJEA Convention Boardwalk Run and Fun Walk. The 5K event starts and ends in front of Boardwalk Hall, next door to the Trump Plaza.

With the American Heart Association as this year’s convention charity, there’s no better time to decide that this is the year you’ll finally be ready for the run. You’ll find a registration form in the September NJEA Review and in the 2009 NJEA Convention Program.
