On Tuesday, April 22, more than 200 members of the Egg Harbor Township Education Association (EHTEA) came out to support the EHTEA in its ongoing negotiations with the Board of Education as teachers and staff continue to work without a contract. The rally preceded the night's fact-finding presentations to a state-appointed mediator. As local newspaper and television reporters spoke with local president Kathy Waszen and NJEA staff, members milled about eagerly awaiting the Board members’ arrival.
The Egg Harbor Township Board of Education is seeking concessions such as a longer school day (without additional compensation) and additional contributions to healthcare coverage above the state-mandated requirements.
The rally was an important demonstration of unity for EHTEA members, as they called on the Board to recognize that teachers and school staff are the lifeblood of the district and they deserve respect.
