Summit to explore school breakfast programs

In an effort to provide a nutritious morning meal and improve learning for more NJ students, school administrators attend the NJ Breakfast Summit to learn about alternative school breakfast programs that can increase participation by 80 percent.  

“Breakfast After the Bell” programs including breakfast in the classroom and grab and go breakfast are simple solutions that move breakfast out of the cafeteria and provide it after students are already at school.  Keynote speakers will discuss the positive connection between nutrition and learning and financial considerations while panel discussions will include testimonials from school’s who have adopted the new programs.

Of all the steps schools can take toward creating healthier, higher-achieving students and a culture of wellness, implementing programs that increase access to breakfast is perhaps the simplest and most cost-effective way to do so.  Studies show that children, especially nutritionally at-risk children, who eat breakfast at school have higher math and verbal fluency scores and perform better on standardized tests.
