Steinhauer: Sweeney pension proposal deserves close look

NJEA President Wendell Steinhauer issued this statement following a press conference at which Senate President Steve Sweeney proposed the creation of a federal pension loan program to help states improve their pension funding levels. “We are glad that Senate President Sweeney continues to explore every possible option for helping New Jersey responsibly meet its pension obligations. As the Senator noted, this does not change the need for New Jersey to meet its current pension obligations immediately. However, this approach deserves a very close look because of its potential to lower costs for New Jersey taxpayers while making workers’ pensions more secure.Read More

The NJEA Reporter was published from 1944 to 1949 and from 1963 to 2014, when it merged with the NJEA Review. It focused on Association events and priorities such as collective bargaining, legislative actions, Member Benefits, and NJEA conferences and workshops. The NJEA Reporter also highlighted the actions of NJEA’s local and county associations.
