Together, let’s stand for labor solidarity, advocacy, and union members’ ongoing fights for improved working conditions, fair pay, and workers' rights.

Mayday2026

Join fellow union members around New Jersey to celebrate May Day, a significant date for the labor movement in the United States and throughout the world. Observed on May 1 each year, May Day commemorates the fight for the eight-hour workday, particularly remembering the 1886 Haymarket Affair in Chicago, where workers striking for shorter hours faced violent resistance.

Local associations are encouraged to show solidarity on May 1 by wearing whatever coordinated attire they choose—local shirts, a specific color, or anything else that represents unity within your local.

Showing Our Solidarity

Throughout the state and country, labor unions are proudly declaring their solidarity. Check out all the ways that they are letting everyone know just how powerful the labor movement continues to be.

“We know what we are up against. The consolidation of power is happening quickly. We know that the concentration of power and wealth in the hands of the few has been a steady march for decades. That has all of us together pushing, demanding, cajoling that this country live up to the poetry of the Constitution and to live up to ‘We the people.’”

-- Becky Pringle, President of the National Education Association.

NEA May Day Toolkit

On May 1, 2026, educators will join workers, parents, students, and community members to rise up for dignity, justice, and public investment in our lives, not in billionaires' profit margins. This toolkit provides guidance to help you join the May Day Strong National Day of Action and make a bold impact for our schools and communities.
