Requires written security plan when school is polling place and open to students; provides that schools may be used as polling places only under certain circumstances; makes an appropriation.

NJEA strongly supports this legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Wisniewski which would require a written security plan when a school is used as a polling place and open to students.

We believe that securing the safety of students and school employees must not be compromised as municipalities continue to use schoolhouses as their polling places.  Moreover, as school security has been debated in recent months, it is even more imperative that a security plan is in place when schools are open to the entire public.

NJEA is pleased that the legislation includes language to increase the appropriation for police presence when needed.

A-1548 is another positive step in enhancing the security and well-being of our school population and NJEA urges you to vote “yes.”
